Adult social work is customer work carried out with individuals or the family, intended for people over the age of 18 and aimed at making a change to improve the customer’s coping skills and preventing problems. The aim is to support customers in maintaining or improving their coping in daily life, financial livelihood and the interrelationships in their own operational environment.
Social assistance is financial support that is provided as a last resort. Its purpose is to ensure that everyone has access to at least the minimum level of income required for a dignified life. The assistance is based on the Act and Decree on Social Assistance, and the right to social assistance is determined on a case-by-case basis through calculation. In addition to basic social assistance determined through calculation, supplementary social assistance that is tied to allocated funds can also be granted on a discretionary basis for special expenditures specified in the Act, while preventive social assistance can be granted for crisis situations.
