For library users
This page provides information on obtaining a library card, reserving items as well as loan periods and the interlibrary service. For more information on services provided by the library, see the menu on the left.
Library card
To borrow items, you will need a library card that you can get from the library or mobile library. Your first library card is free of charge. The library card entitles you to borrow materials from all service points of the library and all Joki libraries.
Click the link in the menu on the left to see the rules of use at Kalajoki Library.
To get a library card, you need to fill in a library card application form, which is available at libraries and the mobile library. You can also print out the application form, which can be found on the list of forms on the right side of this page.
Customers are required to present their identification when picking up their library card. Customers under the age of 15 can get a library card with their guardian’s consent. When applying for a library card for a child, the information of the child’s guardian must also be provided in the application.
Customers must always present their library card when borrowing items.
The library card is a personal item, and its owner is responsible for the card and any items borrowed with it. The guardian is responsible for items borrowed by a customer under the age of 15. The library must be notified of any changes to the customer’s address and name as well as regarding a lost card. Customers can get a new library card to replace a lost card. A new card to replace a lost one costs €1.
A Kalajoki library card entitles holders to a 50% discount on a normal price adult ticket to the SaniFani Spa.
Loan periods and returning and renewing loans
The loan periods vary according to the item and service point. Borrowed items must be returned to the library or mobile library by the due date. Items can also be returned to other Joki libraries. Loans can be renewed up to five times at one of the library’s service points or via telephone or the Joki online library unless the item has been reserved.

Reserving items
Customers can reserve library items that have been borrowed or that are available on the shelf. Items that are not available at Kalajoki Library can be borrowed regionally. Regional loans from Joki libraries are transported once a week. Making reservations is free of charge. Customers will be notified with a text message or via e-mail, telephone or mail once the reserved items can be picked up.
Interlibrary service
If you cannot find the items you need in any of the Joki libraries, you can borrow the materials from elsewhere in Finland or from abroad using the interlibrary service. The provincial libraries of public libraries, i.e. municipal and city libraries, send interlibrary loans without charging a fee. Scientific libraries charge approximately €10 for any interlibrary loans they send.
Requests for interlibrary loans can be submitted at the library’s circulation desk or via telephone or e-mail.
Other libraries can request interlibrary loans from Kalajoki Library. Reservations can be made via the online library if you have a Joki library card and password. Select ‘normal’ as the reservation type and the library where the item is located as the pickup location. If you do not have a library card and password, you can contact the library via telephone or e-mail.
