Environmental health care

The role of environmental health care is to maintain and promote the population’s health and prevent, reduce and remove factors that could pose a risk or cause damage to people’s health and living environment.

Environmental health care includes health protection, food control, monitoring under the Tobacco Act, animal welfare and health monitoring, and veterinary services.

The population’s health is protected by monitoring and studying the adverse health effects of household water, swimming water, housing, common living areas and waste and by influencing the use of areas in a manner that prevents adverse health effects, among other means.

The environmental health care cooperation area managed by the City of Kalajoki comprises the Cities of Raahe and Kalajoki as well as the municipalities of Siikajoki, Pyhäjoki and Merijärvi.
